FINA WORLD CHAMPIONS – dive into a viz

Hundreds of athletes from 186 nations gathered in Budapest, Hungary to compete in 75 events across six disciplines in the 17th FINA World Aquatics Championships. The competition started on July 14th and runs until July 30.

I had watched the Women diving competitions live then I decided that I would like to visualize the final results in a Tableau report. I came across with a beautiful and simple viz on the Guardian’s site. That viz is about the Heptathlon race in Rio, 2016.

I totally fell in love with the design. I wanted to do this on the diving data in Tableau.

Let’s see my report.

I used a rotated sankey display method. The dots show the round scores of the athletes and the lines represent the connection between them.

e.g.: If you select KEENEY Maddison on the Springboard table, you can see her first jump was not the best and BAZHINA’s – who finished on the second in the 1m competition –  jumps were better twice than KEENEY’s. Even so the gold medal was in the neck of KEENEY.

See you at the grand-stand 🙂
